Spring Fever

In the Spring this not-so-young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of…golf.

This adaptation of vintage Tennyson came to me while driving along the West Denver street that bears his name—and borders Willis Case Golf Course. Snow may still blanket the fairways and greens, but I can already see, hear and feel the tee sliding into the thawing turf as I prepare to strike my first drive of the 2013 golf season.

Whether it splits the fairway or nestles in the rough doesn’t matter. Playing golf, like seeing the first robin or tulip, reawakens and invigorates my sprits.

This golf season—Colorado AvidGolfer’s twelfth—holds especially great promise. The game is growing in popularity across the state, with more rounds played in 2012 than in 2011. It’s a trend that shows no signs of abating, thanks to the efforts of our partners at the Colorado PGA, Colorado Golf Association and Colorado Women’s Golf Association. That popularity extends to the professional ranks, as a projected 100,000 will flock to Colorado Golf Club and the Solheim Cup.

We’re trending in the right direction as well. On the heels of Spring’s Annual CAGGY Awards, which celebrate the best of Colorado golf, comes an April issue with features on the Masters, New Mexico, dozens of Colorado courses and our annual guide to private clubs. Subsequent issues will dispense surprising new array of subject matter, starting with our first-ever Buyers’ Guide in May.

And speaking of surprises, as of April, you’ll be able to experience much, much more than just magazine content at www.coloradoavidgolfer.com. The site represents countless hours of work put in by our staff, particularly our tenacious and talented web manager, Kate Stromberg, and the team of self-professed golf geeks at Denver-based Arrae Creative, who developed a creative, engaging, scalable site that will allow us to deliver all the information, programs and deals you’ve come to expect from our magazine and Golf Passport.

Just as you expect information from us, we’d like to get it from you. We’re on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Chime in. Sound off. Pipe up. Ping us. Whenever your fancy turns to thoughts of golf, Colorado AvidGolfer provides a way to share your enthusiasm.
