Denver golf courses add four new carts for adaptive use

Denver Golf has added four new VertaCat mobility carts for players in need of adaptive tools to help them enjoy the game.
“I just started getting into this last summer. At first it’s very awkward, but I want to do it more. It’s freedom again,” said 47-year-old player Matt Schallmoser. “It’s great to go out with my Mom and Dad.”
Denver has had two mobility carts available for players to use at its Harvard Gulch course, as well as Solo Rider carts throughout Denver Golf’s seven locations.
Now that fleet is growing with the acquisition of four new VertaCat carts, the city’s Golf Operations announced Tuesday. Two each will be stationed at Denver’s Overland and Kennedy golf course complexes.
Susie Helmerich, who heads up the Golf operations pro shops, said they have found that if the equipment becomes available the players follow.
“It feels like we have a community (of adaptive golfers) at Wellshire Golf Course,” she said. “Once word gets out, demand will go up.”
Both devices are designed to be driven onto greens as well as into sand traps with flat edges.
Matt Farmen, 35, an engineer with the city of Denver, uses the Solo Riders to help him play Kennedy Golf Course and is trying out the VertaCat now.
“They’re awesome,” he said. “You can play as much golf as you want.”
The VertaCats will be reserved by calling the pro shops and will cost the same as a golf cart rental.
