Splitting Adam’s Mountain

As foreshadowed in our April issue, the purchase of the 2,655-acre Adam’s Rib Ranch property and Adam’s Mountain Country Club—including its Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, which opened in 2007—closed March 20. Led by Chad Brue, principal of Denver-based Brue Capital, the acquisition team includes Vail-based entrepreneur Dan Bennett, who owns and manages several Colorado golf courses including the Cordillera Short Course. The LLC bought the properties from entities controlled by St. Louis-based hotelier Fred Kummer, who had invested more than $100 million into the property since the early 1970s. Brue did not announce what it had paid, but last month the Vail Daily reported a price between $20 million and $30 million. The club, which operates at a substantial loss, comprises the course, a 16,000-square-foot golf maintenance facility, 40,000-square-foot clubhouse with Olympic sized pool, tennis court and on-property fishing rights in Brush Creek. Boulder-based Meriwether Companies will manage the golf and development, as well as completing the initial real estate and membership offerings. Expect plenty of changes in the offing as well. adamsribranch.com
