Resolved

Like second marriages, New Year’s resolutions represent the triumph of hope over experience. But as the last putt drops on 2012, I figure I’d resolve to achieve some personal golf goals next year.

1. Resolved: Shave at least four strokes off my 16.1 handicap.
My index has hovered around this number for years, primarily because I don’t practice as often as I play, and I don’t play as often as I’d like. With the help of Andy Hilts at GolfTEC, I fully expect to be approaching a single digit handicap a year from now.

2. Resolved: Play more courses across Colorado.Although my job affords me the opportunity to play golf just about anywhere, I am, like most golfers, a creature of habit. I play the courses most convenient to my home (Colorado National, Indian Peaks) and office (Inverness, Bear Dance). I need to spread my rounds around and take advantage of the bounty of courses Colorado offers. My goal is to add at least 15 new courses—and yes, I’ll write about them. Any suggestions?

3. Resolved: Elevate the profile of the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.
For 40 years, the institution has celebrated those men and women who have shaped and defined this great game in the state. Whether it’s through videos, promotions or magazine articles, I want more people to knowabout and appreciate this relatively unheralded institution.

Though experience tells me otherwise, some of these might actually stick, especially since I’m going public about keeping them. What are your golf resolutions? Would love to hear from you!
