Lodge Yourself in Utah
What St. George, Utah—just 30 minutes from Mesquite—may lack in neon, it more than makes up for in natural beauty. You can find plenty of it on the golf courses, but less than 50 miles separates St. George from Zion National Park (pictured below), home of such geological wonders as The Great White Throne, The Watchman and Weeping Rock. A two-hour drive places you amid the myriad brilliantly colored spires rising from the amphitheaters of Bryce Canyon National Park. There’s boating in nearby Sand Hollow State Park, as well as mountain biking along the Anasazi Trail and Gooseberry Mesa.

Wish You Were in Dixie?
Why is Southern Utah called Dixie? There’s even a Dixie State University. Back in the 1850s, Brigham Young encouraged his followers to grow cotton and other temperate cash crops that the North would no longer be able to get from the South (a.k.a. Dixie). The plan failed but the name stuck.
