Time for Another TOUR360

The new adidas TOUR360 XT Primeknit

How ironic that adidas should choose Labor Day to introduce a shoe designed to make the walk a lot easier.

XT, Boost, 2.0, XT-SL, XT Wide, XT-SL Wide, EQT Boa, 2.0 Wide and, released in June, a limited edition version whose uppers were made from upcycled (a very specific form of recycling that turns waste into a material or product that is of a higher quality) plastic collected on beaches and in coastal communities and created in partnership with environmental organization Parley for the Oceans–after nearly 15 years, adidas’s incredibly enduring Tour360 shoe certainly has come in all shapes and sizes.

And on Monday, the company introduced the latest model–the TOUR360 XT Primeknit whose uppers are made of soft, breathable, water-repellent yarns that give the shoe a one-year waterproof guarantee.

“We’re always working on creative ways to infuse both comfort and performance into a golf shoe,” says Masun Dension, Global Footwear Director, adidas Golf. “With the TOUR360 XT Primeknit, it checks all the boxes, giving players an extremely comfortable shoe that remains dry throughout their round, while also giving them the support, traction and stability they need. It also offers a unique look to help them stand out on the course.”

To ensure the Primeknit retains the exceptional stability of previous Tour360 models, the shoe  incorporates the same forging technology that adidas began using in 2018 and which involves heat-pressing and, consequently, hardening the upper to provide more stability around the midfoot without adding weight.

“Anytime we can keep a shoe lighter without sacrificing the technology is a huge win,” Denison said about this forging process in October last year. “It is extremely efficient.”

Together with the now very-familiar 360 wrap, the results of the forging technology give the golfer what adidas calls a ‘locked-in’ feel, allowing him/her to swing freely with confidence.

The sole features the company’s eight-cleat X-Traction design, and the mid-sole’s BOOST layer is there mostly for comfort but also energy-return. “The combination of BOOST in the mid-sole, the soft uppers, and the best traction system we’ve ever made, ensures every hole feels like the first,” says Denison.
