Play Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club, One of Fairway Magazine’s Top 100 Golf Courses…
Opened in 1974 as the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club, the 6,920-yard Robert Trent Jones Jr. course at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club treats golfers to incredible views of the Yampa Valley and Flat Tops Wilderness while also challenging them with 66 bunkers, the majority of them protecting slick greens that break away from Mount Werner. Fish Creek snakes through six holes, while lakes appear on two others. Mature pines and aspens frame every fairway of this course that Fairways Magazine voted as one of its 100 Best Golf Courses. Troon Golf manages the course for the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, which runs stay-and-play specials.
More about the Robert Trent Jones II Design at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club…
The surface consists of bentgrass/poa annua greens and bluegrass/ryegrass fairways and roughs. Those sixty-six fairway and greenside sand bunkers come into play on all 18 holes, with almost 70% of them protecting the large, undulating greens. Water hazards appear throughout the course in the form of a small strategic lake on holes #8 and #9. Aged aspen and evergreen trees shape the majority of holes on this magnificent layout, enhancing this unique pristine setting. Built on a parcel in excess of one hundred fifty acres, this championship-caliber course provides the player with stunning panoramic views.
While currently carrying a slope rating consistent with the top Colorado courses (the course plays at 73.1/140 from the championship tees), it maintains comfortable playing characteristics from the less difficult teeing areas and can be enjoyed by players of all skill levels. With full turf coverage for generous landing areas, the Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club is an attractive alternative to some of the target course designs that other mountain golf courses offer, adding to its popularity.
