Mackenzie Cohen Wins Conference Championship

Cherry Creek grad tops field in D-III SAA

Three years after coming out of nowhere to win the girls 5A golf championship with a career-best 5-under-par 67 in the final round, Mackenzie Cohen is once again a champion.

Cohen, who graduated Cherry Creek in 2013 and currently attends Division III Rhodes College in Memphis, rolled to medalist honors in the Southern Athletic Association Conference Championship with a three-day score of 8-over-par 227. She outshot teammate Nickki Isaacson by four strokes at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Lynx won the SAA Conference Championship with a team score of 941, outpacing their nearest rival—Centre College—by 28 strokes. The win marked Rhodes’ second consecutive conference championship.

Cohen also earned conference Player of the Year honors.

She and her teammates will compete May 12-15 in the NCAA Division III National Championships at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Last year, competing at the same course, they won the event, capturing Rhodes’ first national title in women’s golf.

Cohen did not play on last year’s championship squad. She competed for Centre, from which she transferred last fall.
