In this edition of Get Golf Fit presented by Michelob Ultra, Jason Witczak and Karin Hart demonstrate how to properly stretch before golfing. These stretches will help you prevent injury and improve flexibility to see improved performance on the golf course.
THORACIC ROTATION STRETCH
Targets: Upper and lower back
The thoracic rotation stretch helps improve flexibility and can prevent injury on the golf course. Stretching before golf not only helps loosen you up to play better, but it can provide a time and place to relax and calm nerves before stepping up to the first tee. Golfers that rush their pre-golf routine tend to perform more poorly than golfers that have spent time in preparation.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Place your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Place a golf club behind your back with your hands/forearms resting on the shaft.
- Going slowly, rotate left and right like you would with your golf swing.
- Keep your back supported and straight.
- Rotate 10-20 times.
OVERHEAD CLUB STRETCH
Targets: Upper/lower back, shoulders, and hamstrings
