CSU’s Andersen named Mountain West Golfer of the Week

Freshman is first Ram woman to win honor in three years

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State freshman Allie Andersen has been named Mountain West Tri-Golfer of the Week, joining Fresno State’s Mimi Ho and Hannah Sodersten.

This is the first weekly conference honor for the women’s golf program since April 2012 when senior Brianna Espinoza earned the same award.

Andersen recorded her first career top-5 finish when she finished tied for fifth at the Gold Rush by Southern California Ford Dealers in Seal Beach, Calif., on Feb. 9-10.

“I had a very strong first day in California, and put myself in a great spot after two rounds,” Andersen said. “I am very proud of the way I putted, and how I kept a consistent, positive mindset throughout the event.”

The native of The Woodlands, Texas, carded a seven-over 223 and led the 65-player field with 40 pars, both career-bests. Andersen began the tournament with a one-under 71 in the first round, which tied for her career-best single-round score.

Prior to her performance at Gold Rush, Andersen’s previous best finish was tied for 32nd in the Rams’ home tournament in September.

“She had a solid tournament to start the spring,” head coach Annie Young said. “She obviously would have loved to bring home a victory, but overall it was a good start to the season for her.”

Andersen helped lead the Rams to a sixth-place finish, their best of the 2014-15 season.

This is only the second time in Mountain West golf history (men’s and women’s) that the conference has named tri-golfers of the week, and the first time it has happened in women’s golf.
