Get Better Impact with the Board Drill

Inconsistent impact can ruin any round. Top PGA instructor, Alex Fisher, is here to fix that with a quick drill.

One of the mistakes that many golfers fall victim to is the scooping the golf ball, or the premature bottoming-out of the golf club. By the time golfers reach the ball, a ton of loft is added to the club, which results in loss of power and consistency. The first of five videos using common a 2×4 from Alex Fisher, The Board Drill is designed to fix your impact. Check out the video above and improve your impact today.

The Board Drill

  • Place a common 2×4 in front of you, with one end where a ball would be in your stance
    • Align the board toward your target
  • Take a slow, controlled backswing
    • Ensure that your lead arm is straight when parallel to the ground
  • At “impact” push the 2×4 through your target line
  • Repeat until the impact position feels locked in, then remove the 2×4 and try with a golf ball
