U.S. reclaims international trophy for first time since 2017

The U.S. team reclaimed the Solheim Cup trophy Sunday by defeating a team of the best women golfers from the U.K. and Europe, with Westminster’s Jennifer Kupcho helping.

Kupcho was a late captain’s choice addition to the U.S. squad in August; it was her third stint as a member of the U.S. Solheim Cup squad.
Under Captain Stacy Lewis the team went out to an early lead in the three-day team competition and never relinquished it, winning Sunday by a final score of 15.5 points to 12.5.
“So incredibly proud and grateful to be a part of this team! Wish we could hit rewind on the week and do it all over again,” Kupcho wrote on social media after Sunday’s win. “Thank you to all my teammates, captains, caddies – I’d go to battle with y’all any day!! and to all the fans who came out to cheer on @solheimcupusa. That was absolutely electric And special thanks to the Solheim Family and @pingtour for keeping these Solheim Cup traditions alive and also to the entire team at Robert Trent Jones GC for hosting us at such an incredible venue!
What a week! The cup is HOME.”
In Sunday’s singles matches Stacy slotted Kupcho as the final match, and she defeated Linn Grant 2-and-1 to give the U.S. its final point.
On Thursday and Friday, Kupcho was part of two losing efforts, playing alongside Ally Ewing. The pair lost 2-up on Thursday morning’s foursomes, then 1-up on Friday morning’s foursomes
The U.S. and the Euros have played and been very evenly matched in the past 15 years. Since the 2011 competition the Europeans have won four times and the U.S. has now won 3. They tied once.
That is a reversal from the competition’s first decade. Begun in 1990, the U.S. teams won eight times to three for the Europeans.
