Two Colorado courses are among the hosts for qualifying rounds this year for the U.S. Senior Open which will be played June 26-29 at The Broadmoor’s East Course.

Local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 32 sites in 25 states, will take place from April 3 to May 9. Those players who advance will join a group of locally exempt players in final qualifying, which will also be conducted over 18 holes. This final stage will be held at 12 sites across the U.S., from May 19 to June 12.
This is the first year in which the USGA has held U.S. Senior Open qualifiers in the two-stage system it uses for the U.S. Open.
A local qualifier for Colorado is scheduled Monday, May 5, at Cheyenne Shadows C.C. in Fort Carson. Then one of the final qualifiers is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, at The Country Club of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
“The structure of the U.S. Senior Open qualifying model has evolved but its openness has been retained while at the same time providing skilled professional and amateur competitors, through the work of Allied Golf Associations and host clubs, an opportunity to earn a place in the championship field,” said USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer. “The USGA is once again proud to bring senior golf’s most prestigious championship to The Broadmoor as 156 players vie for the for the Francis D. Ouimet Memorial Trophy in this historic setting.”
To be eligible, a player must have a handicap 2.4 or better, or be a professional, and be 50 years of age at the start of championship. Online player registration began on Feb. 18, and the process will continue through Wednesday, March 26, at 5 p.m. eastern at champ-admin.usga.org.
