Three DU Women Qualify for LPGA Futures Tour

The University of Denver's Women's Golf Team, which has won seven consecutive Sun Belt Conference titles and achieved national recognition, now has three former players heading towards the LPGA.

Former Pioneer golfers Stephanie Sherlock, Dawn Shockley, and Kimberly Kim all qualified for the LPGA Futures Tour after impressive performances at the LPGA Futures Tour 2011 Qualifying Tournament at the 6176-yard, par 72, Lake Region Yacht & Country Club.

“I am so proud to see our former players having great success professionally and representing DU at the highest level of women's professional golf.” said head coach Sammie Chergo.

Sherlock shot rounds of 72-71-71-72 to finish tied for third place at 2-under par 286 overall. Shockley finished close behind, tying for 12th place after posting scores of 72-71-70-77 to finish at 2-over par 290. Kim also qualified after finishing tied for 26th place, carding scores of 71-71-74-77 for an overall score of 5-over par 293.

The Duramed LPGA Futures Tour is known as “the Road to the LPGA” and has been designated as the LPGA's developmental tour since 1999. The LPGA Futures Tour annually awards LPGA membership to its 10 top players on each official season money list.

Shockley, Sherlock and Kim will join current LPGA member and former Pioneer Katie Kempter (number 146 on the LPGA money list) at the final stage qualifying for the LPGA Tour at LPGA International Champions and Legends Course in Daytona Beach. You can follow them for all five rounds at LPGA.com.
