BOULDER — The individual champion of next month’s Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational will not only receive the usual trophy and recognition for winning a major college tournament, but will also earn an exemption into next summer’s The Ascendant presented by Blue at TPC Colorado, one of the newer stops on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The Simpson will become one of only a handful of college tournaments that will provide for its medalist to earn an exemption into a professional tournament, and believed to be the first for a Korn Ferry event.

Anthony Knight, CEO of Ascendant National Title, agreed to award a sponsor’s exemption to the Simpson winner into the 2023 The Ascendant.  Ascendant National Title is a young company that is growing incredibly fast and has rapidly become involved in golf marketing in a major way, including carrying the title of the PGA Tour’s official title insurer.  Knight is a member of Boulder Country Club, which will host this year’s Simpson, and has supported the CU program in other ways, including participating in the team’s annual Colorado Golf Day.

“We at Ascendant National Title, a Cypress Ascendant company, are honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the 2022 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational,” Knight said.  “We look forward to supporting Colorado golf and empowering young athletes through this experience.  We are thrilled to award the winner of this event a sponsor’s exemption into The Ascendant presented by Blue taking place next July 10-16, 2023 at the beautiful TPC Colorado.”

“We are incredibly excited about the decision made by Anthony Knight, Ascendant National Title and the great people at TPC Colorado, to grant an exemption into next summer’s The Ascendant presented by Blue event on the Korn Ferry Tour at TPC Colorado,” CU head coach Roy Edwards said.  “For the individual champion of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, this will be a unique privilege and will provide an amazing experience for a deserving up-and-coming future pro to compete against the best players in the world.

“Ascendant is quickly becoming a preeminent marketing partner in professional golf, and this exemption shows their dedication to the future of the game.”

The 12th annual Simpson Invitational will take place at Boulder CC on October 3-4.  Competing teams will include CU, Arkansas State, Boise State, Denver, Grand Canyon, Louisiana-Monroe, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Rice, Southern Utah, UMKC, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP, Washington State and Wyoming.

The Buffaloes are currently in Albuquerque preparing for the New Mexico Tucker Intercollegiate, the team’s final tune-up prior to the Simpson event.
