Ryder Cup to decide bragging rights for next two years

U.S. Team, with Colorado native Wyndham Clark, ready to retain title

by Jim Bebbington

The U.S. Ryder Cup team, complete with Colorado-native Wyndham Clark, begins Friday in their latest attempt to win the competition on European soil for the first time since the early Clinton administration.

The competition is unique in golf. No other team event has garnered anything close to the interest and passion from fans and players over which team will prevail.

Clark, a very under-stated person in most interviews, spoke directly this week about what he’s trying to accomplish, saying during a Golf Channel interview that he believed he was better than Rory McIlroy.

Clark was asked later to flesh out what he meant.

“I think I’m better than every player; how could you not think that. And if I don’t think that then what am I doing out here. It had nothing to do with me and any sort of arrogance and cockiness it was more I just try to have self belief in myself,” he told SkySports Golf.

He also noted that karma is a thing, and that by saying what he did that mean’s he’ll probably get paired against McIlroy during this weekend’s competition.

“Maybe I’ll get a slice of humble pie,” he said. “But I really think I can beat anyone if I’m playing good and I think everyone out here things the same thing.”
