Kupcho, Clark ready to take on the Euros

After a season of waiting, both Colorado natives are officially named to the Solheim, Ryder Cup teams

Two Colorado pros are headed to Europe in September to compete for their U.S. teams against the best golfers from Europe.

Jennifer Kupcho

Jennifer Kupcho, who grew up in Westminster, was named this week to the U.S. Solheim Cup squad. The team will face the best European women pro golfers at the Finca Cortesin resort in Andalucia, Spain.

Kupcho turned pro in 2019 and was a member of the 2021 Solheim Cup team that lost to the Euros at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Kupcho earned her place on the 2023 team. She has won three times on the LPGA and was among the top seven players earning points that automatically qualified her for the team. She was 2-1-1 in her 2021 matches.

In 2021, she competed as a rookie in the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup. “Definitely a little overwhelming,” she said then. “A little nerve-wracking.”

Now she will be one of the veterans seeking to win the cup on European soil. She is joined on the team by Allisen Corpuz, Ally Ewing, Danielle Kang, Megan Khang, Nelly Korda, Cheyenne Knight, Andrea Lee, Lexi Thompson, Lilia Vu, Angel Yin and Rose Zhang.

Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark, who grew up in Highlands Ranch south of Denver, had already qualified for the men’s Ryder Cup team. They compete in Rome one week after the Solheim Cup and are seeking to be the first U.S. team to win the Ryder Cup on European soil since 1993.

Tuesday the U.S. Ryder Cup team announced their squad. In addition to Clark the team includes Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, as well as captain’s picks Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler and Sam Burns.
