Colorado Getaways 2022: The Golf Club at Fox Acres

Fox Acres Great Stupa of Dharmakaya

This Fox Rocks

DEVELOPED BY Ray Stenzel with a course designed by fellow Colorado Golf Hall of Famer John Cochran, The Golf Club at Fox Acres encompasses more than 450 acres in Red Feather Lakes, a 75-minute drive northwest from Fort Collins. You’ll find the 6,500-yard course, which sits 3,000 feet above Denver, a blissfully hermetic experience. It threads through the pine forests and around many of the property’s 15 fishing lakes. Grab a bite at the Fox Grille, bed down in one of 16 Stay & Play club rooms, and then take an early-morning hike through a flowering meadow where deer graze. Consider catch-and-releasing trout on-property or simply bask in the idyllic splendors of nature.

Off-property, head to the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forest or the Cache de Poudre Wilderness. Both boast some of the most scenic and accessible hiking trails in the area. Roosevelt favorites include Dowdy Lake (2.3 miles), Blue Lake (10.3), and North Lone Pine (8.9). Mt. Margaret (7.2) tops the list of Cache de Poudre trails, followed by Lady Moon and Molly Moon (6.5). After an afternoon of forest bathing, visit one the of the area’s most serene and impressive structures, the 108-foot-tall Great Stupa of Dharmakaya. which rises above wooded hillsides to crown a meadow at the Shambhala Mountain Center.
