Facing Off: The Cover Story Backstory

So I’m driving the cart around Green Valley Ranch Golf Club while interviewing Paige Spiranac for this issue’s cover story, and I can’t stop thinking, “Dude, don’t hit anything that will tip the cart over.” As the 23-year-old golfer and I have some deep conversations
about the advantages and disadvantages of social media, I mercifully don’t hit any bumps or trees. She never falls out of the cart, and her camera-friendly features stay intact.

Of course, Paige Spiranac with a golf club in her hands is not just another pretty face. But did you know she has three of them? Game face, model face and goofy face. “I developed them when I was at San Diego State,” she explains. “When I know it’s time to focus, I switch to game face—and I don’t even know it.” Game face shows up when she’s competing on the golf course. Model face appears on her social media pages. Goofy face? Let’s just say it’s Paige being Paige. It sounds like a cliché—or a Cyndi Lauper lyric—but the girl just wants to have fun. Like she’s doing here with me.
