CSU Turfgrass Student Wins GFCO Scholarship

Westminster, CO — The Golf Foundation of Colorado, the philanthropic arm of the Rocky Mountain Golf Course Superintendents Association (RMGCSA), today announced that Parker Ray of Colorado State University is the recipient of its annual Memorial Scholarship Award.

The announcement comes the day after the foundation’s annual fundraising tournament at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora.

A senior in the CSU’s Turfgrass Management Program, Ray has received hands-on training in golf-course maintenance at some of Colorado’s most prestigious private clubs, including Adams Mountain, Eagle Springs and Cherry Hills. He is working this summer at the legendary Oakland Hills, which has hosted 16 major tournaments, including the 2008 PGA Championship.

Parker also participated on the CSU Turf Club team that finished 8th out of 70 teams in the annual GCSAA 2013 Collegiate Turf Bowl. The GFCO’s $2,000 award represents the third—and largest—scholarship Parker has received. He previously benefitted from the Eagle Valley Golf Course Environmental Group and Cherry Hills Country Club’s Palmer Scholarship.

“Mr. Ray’s commitment to mastering the art, science and business of golf-course maintenance is self-evident,” said GFCO President Lance Johnson, CGCS. “This scholarship recognizes and supports his potential to become a steward of the game of golf and the environments on which it is played.”
