Colorado Junior Schedule Announced

Four majors for both boys and for girls will take place in 2016

Who'll be the first major champions on the Colorado junior golf tour? We won't know until June 15, when the final rounds of the Colorado Junior Amateur Championship conclude at Eisenhower Golf Club in Colorado Springs.

That event, which replaces the CGA & CWGA Junior Stroke Play championships, is one of four majors on the 2016 schedule recently released by the newly formed junior golf partnership between the Colorado Golf Association and Colorado PGA. In all of these events, boys and girls will competing simultaneously at the same site, though not against each other.

The other majors will be the Colorado PGA Junior Championship, which will take place July 13-15 at Indian Tree Golf Club in Arvada; the Colorado Junior Match Play Championship, August 1-3 at The Ridge at Castle Pines North in Castle Rock; and the season-culminating Junior Tour Championship, October 8-9 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village.

The majors are part of the Junior Tour, designed for aspiring collegiate players with handicap indexes of at least 8.1 (for boys) and 14.1 (for girls). Qualifications for the majors vary by event. Contact Colorado Junior Golf for more information.

The developmental Junior Series events, divided into three age brackets (10 & Under, 11-13, 14-18) are for “up and coming” players who hope to take the next step with their golf games. Visit coloradojuniorgolf.org for more information.
