Colorado golfers in Europe await weather delay before learning their fate

Rain pushes DP World Tour Qualifier back a day

By Jim Bebbington

Three Colorado golfers have to cool their jets in Spanish hotel rooms for one more day before learning their fate on whether they have earned the right to play in the 2025 DP World Tour.

The six-round qualification tournament for the DP World Tour – which plays primarily in Europe but which has lucrative tournaments in Asia and the Middle East – got pushed back this week as rains pummeled the southern coast of Spain.

Three golfers with Colorado ties – Denver native Gunner Wiebe, Aurora’s Davis Bryant and Dan Erickson of Loveland – made the cut and are waiting out the rain to play their final round.

The top 20 finishers receive cards to play in next season’s DP World Tour.

Bryant is situated the best. With two holes to play on his fifth round – delayed Tuesday because of weather – Bryant stands in 7th place at 17-under par for the tournament. He is one of the few players who has shot in the 60s for all of his rounds.

Gunner Wiebe, who has played the last several season on the DP World Tour, and Erickson,  a Texas A&M alumni whose family moved to Loveland in 2018, are both tied in 33rd place at 11-under par for the tournament. Both need to gain at least three strokes on the field during Thursday’s final scheduled round to get their cards.

Players are scheduled to tee off 8:30 a.m. local time Thursday to finish their fifth rounds, then immediately head out on the sixth and final round.

The DP World Tour 2025 season begins almost immediately, with the BMW Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane Nov. 21 to 24. Tournaments follow in South Africa, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kenya, Singapore, India, China, and most European countries next summer.
