Colorado Golf: 2024 was a special year

Highlights of a year in golf

By Jim Bebbington

As 2024 ends Colorado golfers have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to look forward to in 2025.

The year gave many of us front-row access to see the best players in the world at the BMW Championship. There were thousands of rounds played and updates to favorite courses. Weather played along for the most part and the Colorado golf industry continued to see growth on tee sheets and their bottom line.

Eyes of the World

In August the eyes of the golf world were turned toward Colorado. The top 50 PGA Tour players spent four days hiking up and down the hills of Castle Pines Golf Club, with 2025 Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley coming away the winner.

The event drew more than 100,000 visitors to the course and showed off Colorado golf at its finest. The best player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, threw uncharacteristic fits after his shots sailed over greens because he had difficulty figuring out his distances at mile-high elevation.

Golf boom

The popularity of the game made 2024 a great year for the business of golf, and a tough year for average players. Getting a tee time at most public courses is now a full-contact sport. The city of Denver’s annual membership program, which sold for $40 in 2024, allowed players to book tee times two weeks in advance. Weekend tee times on many of the courses still booked up within minutes. For 2025 the membership plan price rose to $55.
