Where to Visit

The Boulders South Course Courtesy Troon Golf

Boulders Resort & Spa in Scottsdale is a perennial on the ‘Best of Arizona Resorts’ lists throughout the travel industry and its golf course is part of the reason. The course recently received $4 million in upgrades to greens, bunkers, and paths. The club features two Jay Morrish-designed courses – the South Course features towering boulder formations from the surrounding desert landscape, most of the time right behind the greens. The resort’s original North Course has wider fairways and can accommodate golfers of all talents. The Boulder’s accommodations are a full slate of rooms from smaller casitas to large villas and suites.

The Golf Club of Estrella Courtesy Troon Golf

The Golf Club of Estrella southwest of Goodyear will challenge the best players. Designed by Jack Nicklaus Jr., it opened in 1999 and the layout encompasses touches that the Golden Bear would have brought as well as new elements from his son. The Phoenician Golf Club in Scottsdale offers another great test. The course’s greens are surrounded with traps, and long stretches of original desert line the fairways. Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club in Surprise is a Nicklaus Design course northwest of the city that is a modern take on the country club concept. Lighter in touch and design, the clubhouse provides a welcoming start to a great round. At The Westin Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale golfers tee off in the shadow of the beautiful resort complex, and head out through northwest Scottsdale through beautiful terrain.
