At Breckenridge’s Jack Nicklaus championship golf course, things can get a bit wild. Located at 9,300 feet in elevation in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the Town of Breckenridge offers three nines, called the Bear, the Beaver and the Elk, which are named appropriately for some of the wildlife you might encounter during your play, in addition to deer, pika, marmots and maybe even moose.
The 27-hole golf club is considered one of the best in Colorado and is the only Jack Nicklaus-designed public course in the country. With panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and spectacular elevation changes, especially on the Elk course, playing a round of golf in Breck—or two or 20—should be on anyone’s bucket list.
Don’t be fooled by the gently rolling meadows and the scenic views. This is challenging play requiring golfers to be accurate. Start with the Bear course (it’s a tad bit more forgiving) and work your way up to the Elk, the most demanding course.
Wear your mask and book a tee time in advance to ensure physical distancing. The course has implemented new check-in procedures to keep you and their staff safe.
To play all three nines, make sure to book a stay in town at Beaver Run Resort. The resort offers hotel suites and condos with two pools, nine hot tubs, a fitness center, arcade and even a miniature golf course where you can practice your putting. It’s conveniently located steps away from the hiking and biking trails at the base of Peak 9 in Breckenridge and just a few more steps from downtown Breckenridge.
Don’t miss out on the other adventures that the Breckenridge are offers in the summer, such as hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking, biking and especially the outdoor dining on a sunny deck. Strolling down Breck’s Main Street is a must-do anytime of the year. This summer, Main Street has been turned into a pedestrian-only area with outdoor dining, seating and entertainment. Or, enjoy more golf with nearby award-winning courses in Keystone (The Keystone River Course is open for summer 2020), Copper Mountain’s Copper Creek Golf Course and Silverthorne’s Raven Golf Club.
Book your stay in Breck and experience some wild adventures on and off the course this summer.
