The Golden Time to Play Golf in Breck: Fall Season

Beaver Run in Breckenridge

We’ve fallen in love with autumn in Breckenridge, Colorado. The aspen leaves glow golden on the mountainsides and the crisp air is perfect for golf, morning, noon or afternoon.

There’s a reason that locals love the fall, says Bruce Horii, director of sales & marketing at Beaver Run and an avid golfer. September and early October are less crowded and the rates also fall in mid-September through closing day.

“Don’t forget that no matter when you choose to play in Breckenridge, that your ball goes farther at 9,600 feet,” Horii adds. Thanks to less air density, you “should” experience added distance from your tee shots.

According to Titleist’s calculations, you could add 11.136 percent more distance playing golf in Breckenridge (at 9,600) than at sea level.

“Your ball might go farther here in Breck, but there are no guarantees it will go straighter. Trust me on that one,” jokes Horii.

Breckenridge has 27 options for you to test it out. Breck’s championship Jack Nicklaus golf course offers three nines, called the Bear, the Beaver and the Elk, which are named appropriately for some of the wildlife you might encounter during your play, in addition to deer, pika, marmot and maybe even moose.

“It does get wild up here,” says Horii. “The courses are challenging, the views are spectacular and, yes, you might even see some elk, beaver, moose and other wildlife.”

The Breckenridge 27-hole golf club is considered one of the best in Colorado and is the only Jack Nicklaus-designed public course in the country. With panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and spectacular elevation changes, especially on the Elk course, playing a round of golf in Breck—or two or 20—should be on anyone’s bucket list.

Breckenridge Course

Don’t be fooled by the gently rolling meadows and the scenic views. This is challenging play requiring golfers to be accurate. Wear your mask and book a tee time in advance to ensure physical distancing. The course has implemented new check-in procedures to keep you and their staff safe.

Book a stay in town at Beaver Run Resort. The resort offers hotel suites and condos with two pools, nine hot tubs, a fitness center, a spa, arcade and even a miniature golf course where you can practice your putting. It’s conveniently located steps away from the hiking and biking trails at the base of Peak 9 in Breckenridge and just a few more steps from downtown Breckenridge.

Don’t miss out on the other adventures that Breck offers in the fall, such as hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking, biking and especially the outdoor dining on a sunny deck. Strolling down Breck’s Main Street is a must-do anytime of the year. This fall—through Sept. 27 – Main Street has been turned into a pedestrian-only area with outdoor dining and entertainment. After your round, make sure to book a massage or relaxing spa treatment at The Spa at Beaver Run and you’ll be ready to enjoy even more rounds. Book your stay in Breck and experience some wild adventures on and off the course this fall.
