Take a Swing Back in Time at Arizona’s Award-Winning The Wigwam

The WigWam south of Phoenix, Arizona

Set on over 440 lushly landscaped acres, historic The Wigwam in the sun-filled golf paradise of Litchfield Park, Arizona is now offering an incredible ‘Sticks & Stones’ golf package, making it more enticing than ever to stay-and-play, with access to the famed property’s three championship courses, including two designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

One of the country’s only remaining resort destinations designed with golf as its central focus, iconic The Wigwam was first established in 1929, long before today’s era of tight-target fairways. Instead, The Wigwam features three classic, parkland-style courses, each marked by its own lush landscape, perfectly manicured greens, and virtually endless variety of play.

The 72-par Gold Course, one of Robert Trent Jones, Sr.’s two contributions to the property, is affectionately known as “Arizona’s Monster.” With more than 7,400 yards of long, winding play, the Gold Course challenges even the most expert of golfers, with abundant sand traps and charming canals snaking their way through a verdant array of deciduous trees, pines, and tall, waving palm.

The Blue Course, RTJ Sr,’s first Wigwam design, is sometimes described as “the great contradiction,” owing to the distinctly different behaviors enjoyed between its front and backsides. This 6,000 yard, par-70 is technical and challenging, yet subtle, with its perilous bunkers, ball eating ponds, and dog-led fairways.

Rounding out The Wigwam experience, the Red Course, designed by renowned architect Red Lawrence, is a perfect compliment to the Gold and Blue, with nearly 6,900 yards set alongside an abundance of natural water features and lush Arizona trees. The par-72 layout offers generous fairways and greens, but finishes with one of the West Valley’s most challenging stretches.

Of course, The Wigwam is famous for more than just golf. The resort itself draws discerning visitors from across the world, year-round, with its luxury casitas and suites, relaxing sun-kissed pools, acclaimed LeMonds Aveda Salon-Spa, and world-class 9-court Tennis Club. The resort is also home to three unique dining options, including one of the finest restaurants in the West Valley, the acclaimed chef-driven Litchfield’s, along with the ever-popular Red’s Bar & Grill & social hub of the resort, Wigwam Bar.
