Mark Randall

Denver Nuggets Community Relations Ambassador/Former Denver Nuggets’ Forward

What’s your handicap?

My current index is 0.

What’s your favorite Colorado course?

Castle Pines Golf Club is easily at the top of the list.

What’s the highlight of your amateur golf career?

I was fortunate to get an exemption into the Colorado Open. It was very nerve-racking, but I enjoyed it all the same.

What was the highlight of your basketball career?

Playing against Duke in the 1991 NCAA Championship game (Randall had 18 points, 10 rebounds). As a collegiate athlete, you’re playing to get to that pinnacle, and it doesn’t get any better.

You played basketball for Cherry Creek High School, Kansas and several NBA teams. What level of competition did you most enjoy?

I enjoyed them all, but the most fun I had playing the game, for the game, was in high school. Our coaches just rolled out the balls and said, “Go play.”

Who’s in your dream foursome?

Actually, it was more of a “reality foursome,” but I got to play once with Jon Barry, Billy Andrade and Randy Johnson. I also got to play with Roy Williams.

What’s the best part of your job?

Getting out in front of roughly 50,000 kids each year. I get to meet a lot of great people, play in a lot of golf tournaments and represent the organization. To be able to call it my “job” is a blessing.

Do you want to do more broadcast work?

I’ve done college work as a color analyst and post- and pre-game work for the Nuggets, but I would love to do more local broadcasts. I also do motivational speaking to corporations.

What elements of basketball translate to golf?

I still get the same excitement knowing I have to sink a three-foot putt as I do from knowing I have to drain a free throw in front of 20,000 people.
