Forever young: 87-year-old shoots hole-in-one

Renate Shafer of Castle Rock scores hole-in-one at The Links in Highlands Ranch

A hole-in-one always counts, but even more so when the wind is blowing and a group of good friends is there to witness. That was the situation last month for 87-year-old Renate Shafer of Castle Rock.

Renate Shafer scored a hole-in-one at The Links Golf Course in Highlands Ranch April 9 on the par 3 No. 18.

On the afternoon of April 6 Renate teed off on the final hole of The Links Golf Course in Highlands Ranch. Her friends Beverly Carr, Carol Kingsley and Linda Peterson were on hand.

The hole is a 169-yard par 3. Shafer used her driver as the winds gusted to around 30 MPH. Her ball avoided the lake on the right, bounced on the fairway short of the green, jumped toward the pin, and rolled in. It was Shafer’s second career hole-in-one.

Shafer plays weekly in the 18-hole ladies league at Castle Rock’s Red Hawk Golf Course as well as in a bi-monthly local Saturday 18-hole league and joins friends for a round or two in between.
