The Scottish Highlands are dotted with golf courses that combine a sense of isolation with excellent design and fun experiences. It is worth the effort to reach each and every one.
Brora Golf Club: Just north of the village of Golspie, Brora is a seaside links course on which sheep roam the grounds and greens are protected by low-voltage sheep-shocking wire. The views are spectacular.
Covesea Links: Covesea Links is the darling of the golf media, a 9-hole course accessed off a dirt road, right on the northern shore. The owners are on site, and the simple layout is the least expensive round of golf on the whole island.
Moray Golf Club: Moray Golf Club is a fun course squeezed between the charming downtown of Lossiemouth, the local Royal Air Force base, and the North Sea.
Nairn Golf Club: Nairn Golf Club offers a spectacular seaside experience, just east of the Inverness Airport.
Cabot Highlands: Cabot Highlands is a premier two-course experience – the original Castle Stuart 18 along the water and a Tom Doak design that opened this year, Old Petty, which is going to become a destination course in the years to come.
