Cherry Hills to host 2027 Arnold Palmer Cup

Premier college-level competition to be held at Cherry Hills

Cherry Hills Country Club has been named host of the 2027 Arnold Palmer Cup, the international Ryder Cup-style competition pitting the best college players from the U.S. against an international team.

This will be the second time the club will welcome the world’s top men’s and women’s collegiate golfers. The tournament is set for June 7 to 13, 2027, and will represent the 31st edition of the event.

Cherry Hills hosted the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2009.

Men and women compete together as teammates in mixed four-ball, foursomes, and singles matches — making it the only major golf competition of its kind. Many of the players selected to compete are teammates at U.S. universities, adding a compelling dynamic as they compete against one another on an international stage.

“Cherry Hills has long had a mission to host golf’s most iconic championships, and welcoming the Arnold Palmer Cup for a second time is a tremendous honor,” said David Keyte, tournament chairman for Cherry Hills. “The deep connection between Cherry Hills and Arnold Palmer — highlighted by his historic victory in the 1960 U.S. Open — makes this opportunity especially meaningful. We are proud to help carry forward his legacy by hosting the next generation of the game’s great players.”

Since its inception in 1997, the event has been played at some of the world’s most iconic venues, including The Old Course at St. Andrews, Baltusrol, Whistling Straits, Royal Portrush, Royal County Down and Cherry Hills. This year’s competition was held July 3 to 5 at Tralee Golf Club in southwest Ireland, which Palmer designed and is considered the jewel in the crown of his design portfolio.  The international team defeated the U.S. team, 30.5-29.5. The U.S. leads the all-time series 15-14-1.

When players arrive next year, they will face a revitalized course following the recent restoration led by Tom Doak and Erik Iverson of Renaissance Golf Design. Completed in 2022, the project restored key strategic elements of William Flynn’s original 1922 design, including the prominent reintroduction of Little Dry Creek as a defining hazard throughout the course. The course was also lengthened, and its classic design features rejuvenated, meaning the 2027 Arnold Palmer Cup competitors will face Cherry Hills at its finest and most challenging form — a modern championship test with Golden Age design brilliance.

Palmer won his only U.S. Open title in 1960 at Cherry Hills, staging the biggest comeback in U.S. Open history by erasing a seven-stroke deficit in the tournament’s final round.

“Cherry Hills has long been intertwined with the history of championship golf, having hosted multiple major championships, including U.S. Opens, PGA Championships, U.S. Amateurs, and other USGA championships since its founding in 1922,” said Amy Palmer Saunders, board chair of the Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation. “The club’s tradition of excellence — combined with its scenic setting along the Rocky Mountains — will provide a premier stage for one of amateur golf’s most meaningful events.”

Golf Channel will live stream each day of play during the 2027 event at Cherry Hills. Fans will be able to watch some of the world’s best amateur golfers compete via the Golf Channel Mobile app and GolfChannel.com.

ArnoldPalmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, DP World or LPGA Tours; 44 have represented Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup or Solheim Cup; and more than 95 have claimed over 435 victories on the PGA, DP World or LPGA Tours, including The Masters and US Open Champions Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson, The Women’s Open and Chevron Championship winner Lilia Vu, The Open and PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa, two-time PGA Champion Justin Thomas, U.S. Open Champions Wyndham Clark, Bryson DeChambeau, Webb Simpson, Graeme McDowell and Lucas Glover, U.S. Women’s Open Champions Allisen Corpuz and Maja Stark, The Open Champions Brian Harman, Francesco Molinari and Ben Curtis, The Chevron Championship winner Jennifer Kupcho and ANA Inspiration Champion Patty Tavatanakit, as well as FedEx Cup Champions Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Johnson, Thomas, Billy Horschel, Brandt Snedeker and Bill Haas, and LPGA Rolex Player of the Year Vu.
