Great Getaways as the leaves begin to turn

Greater Zion in Utah gains its name from being the front door to Zion National Park but has developed into a golf, resort and outdoor pursuits destination worth visiting year-round.

The region has 14 excellent courses within a 20-mile radius. Staying in St. George, nearby Springdale or any of the communities nearby gives visitors easy access to resorts, courses and outdoor beauty.

Top Courses

The St. George region of southern Utah delivers year-round with destination golf courses. Sand Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane, just 25 minutes from St. George, offers a championship course. The Ledges Golf Club in St. George is beautifully designed with red-rock backdrops and top-tier greens. Coral Canyon Golf Course offers scenic golf. Entrada at Snow Canyon is open to guests at its resort and is well worth a visit. The recently opened Black Desert Resort hosts the PGA Tour each fall for the Black Desert Championship, and the LPGA in the spring. Copper Rock Golf Course is a links-style course that weaves across the desert.

Other good experiences can be found at Coral Canyon Golf Course and Sky Mountain Golf Course.

Where to stay

Springdale and St. George are two of the largest communities in the region, with numerous options. Springdale is the front gate for Zion National Park, and St. George, to the west, is the anchor to a growing golf resort industry. Sand Hollow Resort in Hurricane has vacation-rental-style lodging near its courses, which is ideal if you want to be immersed in golf and nature. Zion White Bison Resort offers camping, glamping and RV stay options in proximity to all the best courses.

Where to eat

The region has many options for dinner after your round. Some of the best include the Spotted Dog at Flanigan’s, MeMe’s Café, Oscar’s Café in Springdale, the Bit & Spur Restaurant & Saloon, the Whiptail Grill and the Zion Canyon Brew Pub — Casual, steps outside the park entrance; good place for a burger, local brews.
