“Celebrating 75 years is both a milestone and a responsibility,” said Judy Mackey, co-owner of Garden of the Gods Resort and Club. “We are proud of the legacy entrusted to us, rooted in vision, hospitality and stewardship of this extraordinary setting. As we look ahead, we remain committed to honoring our history while revolving as an inclusive, holistic wellness destination for future generations.”

From its beginnings in 1951, the vision was to create the ultimate escape where recreation and relaxation reign supreme – and where the distractions of the outside world disappear, bringing the things that matter most clearly into focus.

The view has always been magnificent, and in the mid-20th century, when club founder Al Hill looked out across the mesa – with the lucent rays of late-day sun bathing the landscape in a golden glow – he knew he’d found his paradise. A powerful place, unspoiled, peaceful, and surrounded by awe-inspiring natural splendor.

Hill and his wife, Margaret, dreamed of sharing that view with others by creating what is now the nationally renowned Garden of the Gods Resort and Club. The Hills purchased the property in 1949, and built a private club, luxury resort, and residential community that showcased man-made elegance in an unparalleled natural setting.

Following the official opening of Garden of the Gods Club in 1951, Hill created the ultimate escape where an elite, exclusive membership could find refuge and respite, and enjoy the finer things in life.

Merging the rugged beauty of the landscape with the refined ambiance of a world-class luxury resort, Garden of the Gods Club attracted movie stars, titans of industry, politicians, artists, authors, and musicians. All of them were drawn to its undeniable allure and discerning community of like-minded members.

In 2007, Sunrise Company purchased the property from Hill Development and the Hill family. However, in 2013, local ownership returned when business leaders and long-time Garden of the Gods Club members Brenda Smith, an accounting executive, and healthcare executive Judy Mackey, acquired the high-profile resort and renamed it Garden of the Gods Resort and Club.

The club and resort has a goal of inspiring its guests, striving to deliver in every detail, creating an unrivaled hospitality and wellness experience with the power to transform lives.

Today, Garden of the Gods Resort operates as an inclusive destination of discovery. And it remains committed to Hill’s original vision: To share and celebrate the Garden of the Gods Resort and Club experience, welcoming all who seek to restore their spirits and satisfy their souls.

For guests, the resort offers 57 luxurious guest rooms and suites feature unparalleled front-row views of Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods National Natural Landmark.

The awe-inspiring natural beauty of the Garden of the Gods Park can’t be beaten and the luxury accommodations provide front-row seats to some of the most spectacular scenery Colorado has to offer.

For small groups, cottages are positioned in a secluded refuge within the resort. Guests there receive tranquility and elegance and stay in style in residential-style cottages renowned for their privacy and world-class amenities.

Each luxury cottage features one-, two-, and three-bedroom connecting room options. Bordered by a landscaped courtyard with a dedicated outdoor fireplace and privacy walls for a soothing retreat environment, the cottages offer impeccably curated furnishings and appointments complete with a kitchenette, dining room, spacious living area with fireplace, and fivepiece ensuite bath with soaking tub in each bedroom. Private patios and cozy outdoor fireplaces enhance the tranquil ambiance.

Then there are the casitas. Perfect for a family vacation, golf getaway, or extended stay, the casitas feature a full kitchen, dining and living areas, and a private patio. They are stunningly situated in a secluded enclave and nestled within the resort blend exclusivity with the world-class services for which we are renowned.

Today, Garden of the Gods stands as more than just a historic golf course-it’s a gateway to one of Colorado’s most iconic landscapes. Set against the towering red rock formations that have drawn visitors for generations, the club offers an experience that feels both grounded in tradition and elevated by its surroundings. Golfers don’t just come here to play; they come to immerse themselves in a setting that’s unmistakably Colorado.

What was once a regional gem has evolved into a true destination, attracting travelers from across the country and around the world. The combination of championship-level golf, striking natural beauty, and proximity to Colorado Springs’ growing luxury and hospitality scene has turned Garden of the Gods into a must-visit stop on the modern golf itinerary. It’s the kind of place where a round lingers long after the final putt-where the views compete with the scorecard, and often win.

In an era where golfers are seeking more than just great conditions, Garden of the Gods delivers something deeper: a sense of place. It’s not just about playing the game-it’s about experiencing it somewhere unforgettable.
