One thing is for sure…watching Miguel Ángel Jiménez play is worth the price of admission to the 39th  U.S. Senior Open. The Spaniard played a solid round, teeing off wearing some really cool shoes. Despite blustery afternoon winds and wilting heat, he scored an eagle on Hole 2 and birdied a number of other holes. Carding a 68, he’s tied for second with three other players going into Friday’s round.

“You see the course is tough, even this morning when the conditions was amazing,” said Jiménez. “The guy I played with is 4-under. It’s tough, it’s good. You finish under par, it’s good, more under par, more good.”

‘The guy’ is Jerry Kelly, whose 66 leads the field. Kelly’s round proved that scores could still be low regardless of energy draining, high 90s temps and the often shifting winds.

Some fancy shoes there…

“This afternoon we had gusting winds, some is strong wind, some is from the west, some from the southeast, and it’s hard to choose the right club,” added Jiménez.

When asked about playing with Kelly today, the Spaniard had this to say…”When you have someone that is playing good also, that’s nice. You want the guys around (you) playing good, it is much better for everything, no?”

And apparently it’s better for your scoring if you wear really cool shoes, too…
