Tour Edge’s no-frills Hot Launch drivers are here to hit your ball high and straight
By Tony Dear
Unless the company one day decides to rethink its position in the market, we’ll always be inclined to feature a new Tour Edge product. Making quality gear and pricing it significantly lower than major OEMs’ products is a sure-fire way to win friends, and few non-Direct-to-Consumer companies (Tour Edge has DTC capabilities but is not DTC in the traditional sense)…well, no non-DTC companies do it better.

Tour Edge has two very specific brands, of course – ‘Exotics’, its better-player division, where much of the company’s tech and R&D budget goes, and which is very reasonably-priced; and ‘Hot Launch’ which is targeted at newer, or more seasoned, golfers with slower swingspeeds who require a little more assistance in getting the ball up in the air and down in the hole, and which is very, very reasonably-priced. That’s not to say Hot Launch products are devoid of tech or an afterthought, certainly, but whereas Exotics is all about top-tier performance, Hot Launch is about user-friendliness, value, and honest out-the-door straightforwardness.
Tour Edge has launched two Hot Launch drivers whose sole purpose is to help you hit pleasing shots that enable you to enjoy the game more. It’s a noble quest, and when it comes this affordably, we’re all in.
The 460cc Hot Launch Max is a conventional-looking driver with a 9-gram backweight and ‘V-Taper’ sole that pushes the Center of Gravity back and low to increase the club’s MOI. The Cup Face (face wraps around the crown and sole to move the welding seam well away from the face) and Tour Edge’s well-known, Diamond-shaped, variable thickness zones are designed to keep ballspeeds fairly consistent across the face, meaning you won’t lose too much distance should you miss the sweetspot.

The conspicuous offset (and 1˚-closed face angle) of the 460cc Hot Launch Max D gives it the unmistakable look of a game-improvement club. But if that bothers you, the effect this offset and the invisible heel-weighting have on your slice will do plenty to assuage any misgivings. The back-weight, cup face, and Diamond-shaped VFT zones are here, too, meaning you have a far greater chance of hitting your next shot from the fairway.
