Jeff Potter

CEO, Exclusive Resorts

What’s your handicap?

I’ve been a 20 for as long as I can remember. People tell me I have a lot of potential, but I don’t play often enough.

What’s your favorite Colorado golf course?

Sanctuary. It’s a beautiful place to be, and your camera is just as important as your golf clubs.

What golf destinations are most popular for Exclusive Resort members?

We have more than 25 golf destinations. Scottsdale is probably the most popular. We’re also opening up a home in Sea Island, Ga.

Do you ever travel to play golf?

My family usually travels with me, so I rarely bring my clubs. Besides, I should probably play more with rental clubs so I have a good excuse for my game..

How many members does Exclusive Resorts have?

Around 3,500. As people educate themselves on the experience and what the club is all about, it becomes very easy to understand the attraction.

How has the economic situation affected Exclusive Resorts?

On the real-estate side the current situation is just as much an opportunity for us. At the same time our membership and real-estate portfolio grow hand in hand. Potential members haven’t been saying no; they just want to sit on the sidelines for a bit. The process has slowed down.

Have you seen a decrease in memberships and/or travel from existing members?

I would have expected a difference in resignation rates, but we really haven’t seen it. When people do leave, it’s due to special circumstances.

What’s the future for Exclusive Resorts?

It’s as we decide to write it. We have a clean sheet of paper, and we get to identify where we want to be. This industry is only five or six years old, and our company has tremendous growth potential.

You came from Frontier. What’s the biggest difference between running an airline and a destination club?

I don’t lose sleep over oil.
