GOLFTEC: What Do These Masters Contenders Do So Well?

GOLTEC is looking at the swings of five Masters contenders & how you can implement these aspects into your game

By Sabrina Naccarato

Even though the game of golf is extremely difficult, it’s very rare a PGA Tour pro is off his game. We usually see these guys execute nearly every shot with exact precision and I’m sure we’re going to witness this at Augusta National this week. Not only are we going to see some of the greatest golf being played, but we’re also going to see players trying to complete the Grand Slam of golf, -win their first major- and others looking for their second major of 2020.

So, what exactly are these Masters contenders doing so well week in and week out and how can the rest of us implement these elements into our own games? We’re sharing six videos showing different aspects of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm’s swing that can help you the next time you hit the course.

Hit Long Tee Shots like Dustin Johnson & Rory McIlroy by combining their golf swings

What would you get if you combined Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy? You’d get a swing built for speed. Dustin Johnson in the backswing changes his knee flex to help create more turn. Rory McIlroy during the follow-through straightens his knee and bends himself backward to help generate power.

Drive the Ball like Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is definitely one of the most powerful hitters on the PGA Tour. VP of Instruction, Nick Clearwater, breaks down how Rahm moves his knee throughout the swing to help him swing faster and with more power to encourage longer and straighter drives off of the tee.

Learn to swing like Rickie Fowler

Director of Teaching Quality, Brad Skupaka, shows us how Rickie Fowler takes his hands back in his backswing, which leads to a more in-to-out swing. If you’re struggling with a slice or lack of distance, Brad explains how this is the perfect swing to emulate and shares a for you to practice.

Will Bryson DeChambeau’s longer shaft be successful?

VP of Instruction, Nick Clearwater, discusses Bryson DeChambeau’s decision to possibly use a longer shaft at the 2020 Masters might be beneficial for him but most amateurs might struggle finding the the center of the face, so they should stick to a shorter driver shaft.

Hit your Drives Far like Rory McIlroy

VP of Instruction, Nick Clearwater, explains how golfers shouldn’t try to replicate the same hand position they had at the address once they reach impact and shows the proper impact position using Rory McIlroy’s swing as an example.
