Scotty Cameron’s two latest putters will no doubt cause excitement in the clubmaker’s community.

In a very slow week for golf equipment news, we have a chance to feature something about which only a small section of readers is likely to be curious. We suspect most will take one look at the price and move on, but some are so devoted to the clubmaker, great value is not necessarily a top priority. Plus, the items in question are a limited release that have been available for a week, so who knows how many are still available?

When we mention high-end, limited edition clubs whose market is extremely committed to owning them, there’s a good chance we’re talking about Scotty Cameron putters. They are incredibly attractive, obviously made with the utmost care and precision, and have a 30+-year history of innovation and success both at retail and on the world’s professional tours.

The latest offerings are the Studio Xperimental Fastback 2 and Squareback 2 which feature a new stiff, graphite shaft designed to be both light and appreciably firmer than steel putter shafts.

Both mallets (Fastback 2 is a rounded mid-mallet; Squareback 2 has an extended blade design) each model’s head is milled from 303 stainless steel with a 6061 aluminum sole plate. They feature a Tour-inspired steel gray PVD finish and have a carbon steel face insert and adjustable steel sole weights. The black ion-plated shaft is also counter-balanced to improve feel and help you create a more rhythmic stroke with better tempo.

The putters both have a plumber’s neck hosel (hence the ‘2’ in their names – a ‘2’ usually indicates that type of hosel) which create toe hang and are, therefore, suited to golfers whose putting stroke follows an arc. The insert has the chain-link pattern seen in the Studio Style putters released in January.
