Cobra Putters Offer Another Dimension

A new insert highlights Cobra’s 2024 3D-printed putters

The continual quest for the ideally weighted putter head took an innovative turn in 2020 when Cobra launched its first 3D Printed putter – the King Supersport-35. Cobra Golf has spent the last decade or so raising eyebrows with its often far-fetched, but very effective, technology and the 3D-printed putter, made in collaboration with Hewlett Packard and Parmatech (which provides Metal Injection Molding and Metal Additive Manufacturing services to industry) was right up there with its most inventive and ingenious creations. The central section featured a lightweight, 3D-printed, lattice structure that was surrounded by heavier steel, tungsten, and aluminum to raise the putter’s Moment of Inertia (MoI) and increase forgiveness.

The King 3D Printed putter arrived the following year and used HP’s Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing process to create an ultra-lightweight nylon ‘cartridge’ that not only saved weight in the middle of the putter head but also absorbed vibration and improved sound. The putter also featured SIK’s Descending Loft Face Technology (SIK was purchased by LA Golf in February 2022) which ensured the face struck the ball with the ideal amount of loft whether you pressed your hands forward or hit the ball with an ascending strike.

Cobra 3D Printed Supernova

The 2024 3D-printed putters possess the nylon, lattice-shaped cartridge, a MIM 304 stainless steel body, and a black face insert made from 6061-aerospace grade aluminum designed to improve feel.
The sole of each putter features weight ports that can hold screws ranging in weight from five grams up to 25, allowing you to manipulate the weight of the putter head to create the precise feel you want.

There are three different head shapes – the familiar heel/toe Grandsport, the mallet-shaped Agera, and the fanged Supernova. Various head sizes, hosels, and lengths mean there’s a putter that will fit your eye and stroke.

Cobra Vintage Stingray

Just as it did in 2021, Cobra released its Vintage Series and the 3D-printed putters simultaneously. The 2024 Vintage putters’ head shapes are similar to those of the previous line (Cuda, Sport-60, Sport-40, Stingray, Widesport, Nova) though the ’24 version features a variable-loft, Pebax insert to enhance feel and sound. The bodies are made from 304 stainless steel, and the heads have an adjustable weight in the heel and toe areas which only club fitters can swap out.
