Wyndham Clark defends his title, and two Centennial state titans compete in the Pro-Am

This weekend’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will come with a full Colorado flavor.
Denver native Wyndham Clark is the defending champion, as the tournament returns to Pebble Beach again since last season’s wind and rain shortened event.
Clark won the third tournament of his career here last year and it helped springboard him to a berth on the U.S. Olympic team and a deep run in the lucrative end-of-season FedEx Cup playoffs.

Another Denver-native, Mark Hubbard, also earned a spot by way of his performance last fall in the FedEx Cup Fall series. Hubbard has often said he wanted to begin making the fields for more of the PGA Tour’s signature events, which have the largest paychecks, and this weekend gives him that chance.
Hubbard played in the tournament last year as well and had one of his best finishes, tied for fourth.
In the popular Pro-Am field, at least two players with Colorado connections are scheduled to compete.
Josh Kroenke – the son of Nuggets and Avalanche owner Stan Kroenke and a 6-handicap who plays out of Castle Pines Golf Club – is partnered with PGA pro Adam Hadwin. The president and CEO of Westminster-based Ball Corporation, Daniel Fisher (7-handicap from Cherry Hills Country Club) is also competing with his pro partner, Tom Hoge.
The pro-am field is crammed with tech industry and hedge fund CEOs and other notables, including NFL great Larry Fitzgerald Jr., former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, retired NBA great Pau Gasol and musician Eric Church.
The tournament will also be the PGA Tour season debut for two of the tour’s biggest names – Rory McIlroy and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy told reporters Tuesday at a pre-tournament press conference that he’s likely going to play in the U.S. 22 times, this season, down from the 27 he played last year. He said he’s impressed by Scheffler and wants to see how he does this week after his injury. Scheffler broke glass and needed surgery to get shards from his hand during the offseason; he said he broke it preparing ravioli.
“I think he made enough money to hire a chef,” McIlroy joked. “I mean, why are you cooking yourself?”
CBS will have broadcasts of the event beginning 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and coverage will also be on the NBC and CBS Sports apps, ESPN+, and the Golf Channel.
