Annika Sorenstam and Terrell Davis team up to teach golf

The two taught more than 100 children in Denver about golf through Bank of America’s and the Youth on Course program

More than 100 children from Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and and Denver Inner City Parish received an introduction to the game of golf Monday from Denver Bronco great Terrell Davis and LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam.

Terrell Davis took part in a youth golf clinic Monday, Aug. 11, to support youth golf through the Youth on Course program.

The two were part of the instruction staff at Bank of America’s Golf With Us clinic at Foothills Golf Course near Denver.

Bank of America’s new Golf with Us program is expanding affordable access to golf nationwide for more than 86,000 kids by offering rounds for $5 or less at thousands of courses in partnership with Youth on Course. The Denver clinic participants also had an opportunity to join a PGA Jr. League team at Foothills Golf Course for free, courtesy of Bank of America.

PGA Jr. League is a team-based golf experience where kids wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with their friends.

In Colorado there are dozens of courses taking part in offering low-cost rounds for children in the program. In the Denver area courses include most of Aurora’s public courses, CommonGround Golf Course, Green Valley Ranch Golf Course, Walnut Creek Golf Preserve and Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster. In Colorado Springs courses include Cheyenne Shadows and Cherokee Ridge. Most Fort Collins and Greeley public courses are participating as well as Vail Golf Club, EagleVail Golf Club and Eagle Ranch Golf Course.

“I love introducting the game of golf to everybody especially young kids,” Sorenstam said. “You have to start somewhere so today we’ll teach them how to hold a club, how to make a putt.”

“We know the barrier to playing golf is super high,” Terrell Davis said . “It’s an expensive sport – I’m always complaining about the tee fees when I play golf – so the fact that they’re allowing a lot of these kids to have access and the exposure of playing this wonderful game means a lot to me.”
