The Justin Simmons Foundation annual golf fundraiser is July 6 at Castle Pines Country Club

When former Broncos safety Justin Simmons retired this spring after nine NFL seasons he and his wife Taryn had a lot waiting for them back at home – three small children and a growing charity foundation that they have big plans for.

Simmons started his foundation during his playing career – eight seasons with the Broncos and one final season with the Atlanta Falcons. After taking a season off in 2025 he decided this spring that it was time to move on from the game.
But not the foundation.
“We’re definitely planning to keep it going,” Simmons said recently. “Both my wife and I are gonna be more heavily involved now that football isn’t the main focus. We’ve always had a passion for giving back. I think if everyone was honest and looked themselves in the mirror – you never make it in life and you’re never successful without the village of people that help you. So I didn’t make it in the NFL because I ran fast, I jumped high, because I was super athletic. Those things helped, but it was because I got invested into, I got poured into. I want to be that for as many kids as possible. And since we’re calling Denver home, and Denver’s been so great to my family and I, we want to make sure that we continue to get back in that way.”
To raise funds over the years Simmons has hosted galas, put in his own money, and sought support from the community. In 2020, the year he established his foundation, Simmons was nominated by the Denver Broncos for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given by the NFL.
This year Simmons is hosting a golf tournament to raise funds, July 6 at the Country Club of Castle Pines, his home course.
“Expect a wonderful day of golf, fellowship and dinner highlighted by the opportunity to hear how the Justin Simmons Foundation is reaching at-risk youth in the Denver area,” his foundation website states. “This year all proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Denver and the Denver Public School Foundation.”
Cost is $500 per player or $2,000 for a foursome. Go to JustinSimmonsFoundation.Org for more information.
The Justin Simmons Foundation is a lean operation, according to publicly-available tax records. Simmons and his wife Taryn are the only two directors and employees and in 2024 it gave away to other causes more money than it raised. Primary beneficiaries were the Denver public school athletic department to help pay the cost of uniforms for its teams, the Boys and Girls Club of the Denver region, and a national program called RISE that the NFL also backs which seeks to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations.
