Great Getaways as the leaves begin to turn
By Jim Bebbington
Omni Tucson National Resort and Spa, on the north side of Tucson, has been a standard for excellent golf since the 1960s and a destination resort since the 1980s.

The courses remain an elite warm-weather destination for players fleeing winter in the north.
The Golf
Visits to Omni Tucson need to leave room for two excellent courses providing 36 holes of challenge.
The Catalina Course is the flagship. It has hosted more than 35 PGA Tour events for many years as the home of the Tucson Open. Designed by Robert Van Haggen and Bruce Devlin, the course can be as player-friendly or challenging as the visiting golfer wishes. The University of Arizona men’s and women’s teams use it as their home course. Nearly every hole has an elevated green and finishes with No. 18, which is sandwiched between two lakes and, for many years, was considered one of the hardest finishing holes on the Tour.
In 2005, Tom Lehman led a redesign of the Sonoran Course and turned it into a desert-style pinnacle. Many of your drives will clear desert washes and natural landscaping. The course is known for its bunkers – strategically placed to add challenge and keep competitions close.
The Resort
The Omni Tucson resort is known as a more intimate resort experience set apart from the city by its spacious grounds. At only 128 guestrooms, the resort has a small, cozy feel year-round. But the complex is big enough to offer 36 holes of golf, three restaurants and full spa amenities.

The Spa
The grounds of the Omni Tucson have all the amenities needed to make a perfect long-weekend getaway this winter. The Mokara Spa has a full range of massage, facial and salon treatments. The 1,400 square foot fitness center has the latest equipment. The Catalina and Sweet Water Terrace pools are available, along with tennis courts.
