Where to Play: Scottsdale, Phoenix and Beyond

A major overhaul of TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course and clubhouse is scheduled after next year’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, which annually draws a half-million people. The $15 million improvement will include resurfacing greens and tees, improving irrigation and expanding locker rooms, dining areas and meeting space.

Know Your Ranchos
The golf resorts of Rancho de los Caballeros and Rancho Mañana have more in common than similar sounding names. Both enjoy off-the-beaten-track locations (Los Cab is in Wickenburg; Mañana in Cave Creek), and in addition to impeccable courses both resorts indulge guests with spa treatments, gourmet meals and horseback riding. The 7020-yard, par-72 Los Cab is tougher and more parkland in style than Mañana, a desert-style par-70 that barely cracks 6,000 yards but has teeth enough to carry a 125 slope rating.

Did You Know?

  • Trilogy at Vistancia answers with a resounding “yes!” to the old Broadway question,“Will it play in Peoria?” Just 35 minutes west of Scottsdale, this 5-star Gary Panks design anchors a vigorous active adult community in, yes, Peoria.
  • Talking Stick Golf Club has become very popular among Coloradans, thanks to its proximity to the Rockies’ Spring Training home. Troon Golf’s 36-hole property features two Coore- Crenshaw layouts that require altogether different games. from each other.
  • We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s two courses are well worth a pilgrimage into the McDowell Mountains and the Yavapai nation. The Scott Miller-designed Cholla and Coore-Crenshaw Saguaro courses combine for 36 holes of bliss.
