The temperate climate and surreal topography that make the St. George area one of the nation’s fastest growing places to live also makes it one of the most popular golf destinations. Eleven courses, all within a 40-minute radius, dot the region known as Utah’s Dixie.
Twice named Golfweek’s top public course in Utah, Sand Hollow Golf Club’s colorful 7,300-yard Championship course (pictured above) may be easier to shoot with a camera than with 14 clubs. It’s Links 9 is every bit as good, and onsite lodging makes it easy to take on all 27 John Fought-designed holes.
Coral Canyon Golf Club, located in what many call “Color Country,” spans 7,029 yards. The Keith Foster design affords breathtaking views of Bryce Canyon’s snowcapped pink spires in the winter and Zion National Park’s green springtime bloom.
The Ledges Golf Course perches on sandstone cliffs 900 feet above the St. George Valley, with each hole on this 7,200-yard Matt Dye creation rewarding players with amazing vistas. The Ledges is also home to the Billy Casper Golf Academy.
Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club, a private Johnny Miller Signature layout, allows play from guests of the Inn at Entrada. The course traverses 7,085 yards of red rocks, mountain streams and dramatic ancient black lava flows.
Ten St. George-area courses—plus Mesquite’s Falcon Ridge—comprise the Red Rock Golf Trail, a free service provided by the St. George Area Convention & Tourism Office that automatically calculates green fees and hotel prices for a total golf package rate. The trail consists of Coral Canyon, Falcon Ridge, Dixie Red Hills, Green Spring, The Ledges, Sand Hollow, Sky Mountain, Southgate, Sunbrook, SunRiver and St. George. redrockgolftrail.com.
