On June 25-July 1, the 39th rendition of this crowd-pleasing event will be played at Colorado Springs’ The Broadmoor, which this year is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

One of the most decorated resorts in the world — in fact, GOLF magazine named it the No. 1 golf resort in North America in 2014 — The Broadmoor features the historic Donald Ross/Robert Trent Jones-designed East Course, site of numerous national championships including next month’s Senior Open, the 1959 U.S. Amateur (won by Jack Nicklaus) and the 1995 and 2011 U.S. Women’s Open (Annika Sorenstam and So Yeon Ryu, respectively).

Much more awaits guests of this luxurious property, which has earned more consecutive Forbes Five Star (57) and AAA Five Diamond (41) awards than any other property in the world. Amenities include another singular 18-hole layout — the Ross/Jones-designed West Course — plus a 43,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, swimming, tennis and 19 restaurants, cafes and lounges. Add to that an adrenalin pumping adventures program that’s highlighted by fly-fishing, falconry, mountain biking, zipline soaring, hiking and box-canyon exploring at Seven Falls.

Editor’s note: The Broadmoor recently announced that its nine-mile-long Pike’s Peak Cog Railroad has shuttered due to aging infrastructure. Plans to reopen the 126-year-old landmark have yet to be determined.

Offsite there are even more experiential activities, including these five:

Manitou Springs Wine Festival: Featuring 30 Colorado wineries, this popular event offers delectable samplings of food and wine, live entertainment and the opportunity to explore one of the more quaint and eclectic little towns in the Rockies. June 2.

96th Annual Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and Fan Fest: The Race to the Clouds is the second oldest motor sports race in America, staged on a 12.42 mile course that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at Pikes Peak’s 14,115-foot summit. Daredevil event includes practice and qualifying sessions, a 30,000-fan street fest and more. June 22-24.

9th Annual Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival: In nearby Cañon City, go see how the annual spring runoff turns the Arkansas River into a raucous, competitive affair of rafting, paddle boarding and crazy river craft. Food, spirits and live entertainment designed for the whole family. June 22-23.

78th Annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Days: One of America’s premier rodeo competitions and sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the PPOB includes steer wrestling, bareback broncs, tie-down roping, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping and women’s barrel racing. July 11-14.

Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift OffA family-style hot air balloon festival, the event will offer a 70-balloon mass ascension, nightly balloon glows, skydiving demonstrations, wakeboarding exhibtions, live entertainment, concessions and more. Free. Sept. 1-3.

BONUS: Garden of the Gods: A National Natural Landmark since 1971, the 1,370-acre city park is a head-craning, Nikon-prompting romp through stunning sandstone spires, cathedrals and formations that date back 300 million years.

Colorado Springs is a three-hour drive south of Denver via I-25. For more about the city’s diverse events and destinations, go online to VISITCOS.com.
