Look for golf handicaps at The Club at Cordillera to drop significantly by the end of this summer.

The private club in Edwards will welcome Tim Mahoney—whom Golf Digest ranks among its “50 Greatest Teachers” and Golf magazine has for 10 years included among its “Top 100 Teachers in America”—to teach individual and group lessons, clinics and schools from June through September.

Based the rest of the year in Arizona, Mahoney is currently the global director of education for Troon Golf, which manages The Club at Cordillera under its Troon Privé brand. He is the creator of the Troon Golf Academy, Troon Golf Institute, Mahoney Golf Academy and the David Duval Golf Academy in Japan.

When not training other teachers, he teaches all levels of golfer from his home bases at Westin Kierland Golf Club and Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale.

Honing his teaching philosophy alongside such noted golf instructors as Chuck Cook, Jim Flick, Hank Johnson, Peter Kostis, Davis Love, Jr., Paul Runyan and Bob Toski, Mahoney has instructed members of all four major American tours, including Duval and Billy Mayfair. He has conducted more than 3,500 events worldwide. He was also a member of the Golf Digest Pro Panel contributing more than 40 instruction articles to the magazine including three cover stories.

“We have a unique opportunity to have Tim available to our members this summer,” Cordillera’s General Manager Mike Henritze says. “He’ll be a great resource. Exposing them to his passion for teaching can’t help but add to their enjoyment of the game.”

Unlike many “name” teachers, Mahoney plans on giving lessons to all level of players.

“I’ve spent limited time at Cordillera the last four years,” Mahoney says, “and I love the culture. They have great ownership and management, and a fabulous membership.”

In addition to private lessons, group lessons and golf schools, Mahoney plans to conduct daily afternoon clinics ($50 for members/$60 for nonmembers).

“We’ll have Saturday Short Game on the Short Course, Ladies Margarita Mondays and Cosmo Wednesdays,” he says, mentioning just a few of his clinics. “I challenge any of my peers—Hank Haney, Sean Foley—to do as many clinics. I want to get people to play more golf. And what better way than to utilize the environment at Cordillera—the Valley, Mountain, Summit and Short courses?”

He also intends to devote two weekends a month to multi-day schools that are also open to the public. At other times, nonmembers can take advantage of Mahoney’s instruction if they are guests of Cordillera’s select hotel partners. He anticipates some of his national and international students to fly in as well.

Mahoney utilizes “all the latest and greatest technology—TrackMan, K-Vest, 2-D, 3-D, 4-D—to create a personal blueprint for people to get better.”

Cordillera members and guests should take full advantage.
