Nevada Lodging: Two Cities, One Sure Bet

The recession must be over, because new luxury hotels are opening again in Vegas. Last year brought Nobu, a separate hotel within Caesars Palace. This year Caesars (pictured above) opened The Cromwell, a 188-room Parisian-inspired hotel featuring the first restaurant by food celeb Giada De Laurentiis and a huge indoor/outdoor nightclub with rooftop pool. In August the 1,600-room SLS Las Vegas debuted on the north end of The Strip. The three-towered resort, designed by Phillipe Starck will feature the restaurants Katsuya by Starck and The Bazaar by José Andrés, plus endless nightlife offerings.

Falcon Ridge Hotel is the former name of the Holiday Inn Express that provides one of the few non-casino lodging options in Mesquite, making it perfect for families. Rooms have balconies, and the stellar Falcon Ridge Golf Course is still across the street.

Primm Valley Casino Resorts (Whiskey Pete’s, Primm Valley and Buffalo Bill’s) lie a half-hour south of Las Vegas and offer stay-andplay deals with Primm Valley’s superb Lakes and Desert courses—both Tom Fazio layouts managed by Par 4.

Caesars Palace, with upwards of 4,000 rooms, A-list entertainers and many of Las Vegas’s best restaurants, remains one of the most iconic places to stay in Vegas. Plus it owns the wonderful Rio Secco and Cascata golf courses.

Pure Gold

The desert oasis of Mesquite, which sits 80 miles north of Las Vegas on the Arizona border, features similar golf, lodging and gaming as the big city.
