Lynn DeBruin: A Tribute

“When I need a story done right, done well and—at times—done fast, I call Lynn DeBruin. She brings enthusiasm, intelligence and pride to every assignment. A solid reporter, she takes direction and editing like a pro, and writes with grace on deadline. The Rocky’s loss has been our gain.”

This was the testimonial I gave Colorado AvidGolfer Contributing Editor Lynn DeBruin for the website she created shortly after the 2009 closure of the Rocky Mountain News, where she’d worked for years.

To those mots justes I could also have added “an unquenchable zest for life.”

That zest carried her through an extremely long battle with cancer, which she sadly lost September 7.

On that day Colorado AvidGolfer lost more than just a valued writer. In addition to contributing dozens of stories to over the years—including cover features on Amy Van Dyken, Brian Dawkins and Don Baylor—Lynn was also a hell of a golfer. In 2004 she won our Media Madness competition, defeating such local sticks as Rich “G-Man” Goins, Scott Hastings and Jerry Walters en route to capturing the crown at Cherry Hills. (You can read the details of the final match here.)

Lynn loved to play sports and cover the athletes who excelled in them. I therefore invite you to join in paying tribute by reading the following stories:
