How to Hit Your Driver Farther

How to Hit Your Driver Farther

Adding distance to your driver is one of the most commonly sought out tips for golfers of every age and every handicap. Who doesn't want to add 20 or 30 yards to his or her drives? It's one of the primary reasons we – as golfers – spend billions of dollars each year on equipment, balls, lessons and more.

As one of our favorite instructors, Trent Wearner, explains in this video, the average male 14-handicap swings his driver the same speed (about 94 MPH) as the average LPGA Tour player but hits it 22 yards shorter. There's a stat to take to your next round to impress your foursome, but think about that for a second. You've heard of “swing faster, not harder” but this goes a step (or 22 yards to be exact) beyond that. Yes, an increase in clubhead speed can result in an increase in distance but it's not the only answer.

Watch below and see Trent show:

  • Why you may be losing distance on your driver with your swing path and spin
  • An example of a swing and common mistake that does not result in maximum distance
  • A drill to try on the range and what you can do to improve your swing
  • An example of what optimum impact on the clubface should look like

This is a great instruction video you can take to the range to add yardage to your drives.
